The Governor Who Saw It
On March 13, 1997, Arizona Governor Fife Symington witnessed what he described as a massive "V-shaped" craft — silent, low, and enormous — passing over the Phoenix metropolitan area during the now-famous Phoenix Lights event. At the time, Symington publicly mocked the reports, staging a press conference at which an aide appeared in an alien costume.
Ten years later, Symington publicly recanted and admitted that he too had witnessed the craft that night. He described it as unlike any aircraft he had ever seen and called for a serious federal investigation.
Speaking Out
Symington's belated admission is significant because of his position. As a former Air Force pilot and sitting governor, his credibility is difficult to dismiss. He has since participated in multiple documentaries and advocacy events pushing for government transparency on UAP, including the 2007 National Press Club event organised by James Fox.
