The Reporter's Reporter
Ralph Blumenthal is a veteran New York Times investigative journalist with decades of experience covering organised crime, Nazi war criminals, and government misconduct. In December 2017, he co-authored (with Leslie Kean and Helene Cooper) the landmark Times story revealing the existence of AATIP and publishing the first official UAP footage — one of the most significant news stories in the modern UAP era.
Blumenthal subsequently wrote a biography of Harvard psychiatrist John Mack — The Believer (2021) — and has continued to report on UAP developments. His mainstream journalistic credentials give the AATIP story a credibility that publications specialising in UAP could not have achieved.
The Collaboration That Changed the Conversation
The Blumenthal-Kean-Cooper collaboration was strategically essential: the Times would not have published the story without the rigorous sourcing that each journalist brought. Blumenthal's experience with government secrecy and his institutional standing within mainstream journalism made him a critical component of the team that broke open the modern disclosure era.
