The S4 Claims

Bob Lazar is the most famous claimant of insider knowledge about recovered alien technology. In 1989, he told journalist George Knapp that he had worked at a classified facility called "S4" near Area 51, where he was tasked with reverse-engineering a propulsion system from a recovered non-human craft. He described nine craft at the facility, a propulsion system based on gravity wave amplification using Element 115 (moscovium), and a working environment of extreme secrecy.

Lazar's claims are impossible to independently verify. His employment at S4 cannot be confirmed, and his academic credentials have been disputed. However, Element 115 — which he described in detail in 1989 as a synthesised element with unique properties — was formally confirmed to exist by scientists in 2003, lending a degree of retrospective credibility to some of his technical claims.

The Enduring Mystery

Whether Lazar is telling the truth, partially telling the truth, or fabricating his account remains genuinely unresolved. The documentary Bob Lazar: Area 51 & Flying Saucers (2018) presented his case to a new generation. His insistence that the government has harassed and surveilled him since going public — for which there is some corroborating evidence — adds a layer of complexity to the straightforward debunking narrative.
